Driveway guide

Choose a driveway finish in the context of your home.

Brochure photographs and material samples each tell part of the story. A preview on your own property helps you connect the surface choice with the house around it.

Start with the house, not the swatch

Look at the colours already present: brickwork, render, roof, window frames and established planting. You might want a surface that sits quietly alongside them, or a stronger contrast. A driveway preview gives you a way to look at that relationship across the full visible area.

Try a small shortlist first. A lighter resin direction, a warmer aggregate look and a darker paved option will often tell you more about your preference than ten very similar shades.

Compare surface character as well as colour

Resin, blocks, tarmac and gravel create different visual effects. Blocks add joints and a repeated pattern. A resin or tarmac appearance can read more continuously across the drive. Gravel introduces a looser stone texture.

Preevu can help you explore those appearances. It cannot tell you which construction or product is suitable for your site, so keep the visual shortlist separate from the technical choice.

Look at the border and the meeting points

The edges matter. Notice how the proposed finish meets the house, pavement, lawn and any steps. A contrasting border can give the drive a clearer outline, but the result should still suit the property.

Use a short additional instruction to explore an edge treatment, then check whether the AI has retained the original boundaries and covers. Agree the actual detailing with the installer.

Keep the comparisons fair

Use the same starting photo for each option. Changing the angle, weather or surrounding scene makes it harder to judge the finish itself. Keep a note of the selected finish alongside each downloaded preview so you can discuss it clearly later.

Do not judge tiny differences in colour as if the image were a calibrated sample. Treat it as a broad design direction.

Confirm the shortlist in person

Ask to see the actual materials before ordering. Your installer also needs to assess the site, measurements, ground conditions, drainage and access. None of those questions can be resolved by a convincing generated picture.

The useful outcome is a clearer conversation: “This is the appearance I prefer. What would you specify to achieve it here?”

Show the idea. Start with a photo.
